12.16.2008 Tuesday: BACK!

Picture of: the results of our family tradition of "buy ornaments and eat lunch with Poppa" day. From left to right are a bird, a pig (or is it a cow) a small penguin and large penguin.

Today I: finally am able to get back into Blogger to post my blog here, so very sorry but the dashboard has been down for some time; updated my mailing list with new entries; mailed postcards; did the post office and bank gauntlet; researched a new story; spent time with my kids for our traditional lunch and ornament buying trip; enjoyed the all-day rain in our cities today; talked with family members about holiday parties; read new marketing newsletters from the guru's guru.

10.14.2008 Tuesday: (Big) School Show

Picture of: my laptop (oh the pain) sitting on the table at the Rubio's restaurant today during my lunch and writing session.

Today I; picked up a rental car; spoke at the South Mountain Community College Storytelling Institute, demonstrating the "outside in" one-on-one coaching experience as well as telling two stories; ate lunch at the above mentioned eatery; went to the bank in the same parking lot; bought a stack of needed supplies at the Target in the same parking lot; came back to office and went on an overdue shredding/trashing spree with daughter #3; went out to nephew #2's football game; twittered; caught up on email; returned rental car

09.16.2008 Tuesday: Travel Bug(ging me)

Picture of: the plane parked at Gate 20 that would carry us from Austin, TX to Phoenix, AZ

Today I: slept in a bit after yesterday's long coaching and corporate storytelling day; worked on Emails to clients back in Phoenix; packed up my belongings in my hotel room; cleaned up meself and checked out of hotel; had lunch at the local "casual dining" location; gassed up the rental car; drove to airport in Austin and turned in the car; wanted to poke AVIS in the eye for this crazy "automatic" charge of $14 if you drive less than 75 miles in your rental. They charge your card (holding that money) and *then* ask you if you bought gas so they can refund the $14 to you; checked in, did the TSA shuffle and hurried-up-and-waited at the gate; got bumped up to first-class; took the 2.5 hour flight back to Phoenix; wife and daughter #4 met me there and drove on back home; worked on a problem with delivery of an audio kit; did not respond to more echo-chambering storytelling stuff; ate dinner at home and took my family out for dessert; unpacked suitcase and found large, live beetle bug in my case- musta wanted to leave Texas; calling it a night.

08.24.2008 Sunday: The Great Journey(s)

Picture of: the camp meeting hall where we met this weekend.

Today I: packed up my things from the hotel room; ate hotel breakfast; travelled to the camp where I was speaking; presented my morning storytelling presentation; drove back down the mountain; had lunch in town and then began the trek back to my house; stopped by the post office to see what fun was in there from the last few days; unpacked things at home; updated Email; read a new report about using Adwords; let my FMS win tonight and vegged out watching "Lord of the Rings" aka "Let's Watch Hobbits Cry."

08.23.2008 Saturday: Storytelling Sessions

08.21.2008 Thursday: Coaching and Prepping

Picture: the cover of the new college textbook "The Oral Tradition Today: An Introduction to the Art of Storytelling" by Liz Warren. Nice job, Liz.

Today I: spoke with the sponsors for this weekend's storytelling event; emailed a potential new sponsor in New York; did the bank and post office errand run; cleaned out the drain of the tub in the "kids'" bathroom at our house; did an in-person coaching session with two clients tonight in their storytelling projects; twittered; was pleased to see our information products starting to sell; daughter #4 wants you to know that the dog is not mean- I told her that I knew that already. She also wants you to know that the picture a few days ago from the Boot Camp was of her hands making that sandwich.

08.01.2008 Friday: Hot Storyteller

Picture of: the place to get $1 drinks in a drive-thru location. Record setting temps in AZ, so this a very popular offer.

Today I: prepped for my big writing day on Saturday; talked with a coaching client; did bank and post office errands; shopped for Popsicles(tm) for sick child and bought cheap frozen pizzas for family "pizza and snacks" night; dug around for "Beauty and the Beast" variant; did Emailing for the "Outside In Storytelling Marketing Boot Camp" coming up in just a few weeks!

06.09.2008 Monday: It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia.

Picture of: the main meeting room for the "summit" meeting I am at (attending) this week for marketing/coaching/networking in Philadelphia.

Today I: found a 20 minute wait for the breakfast buffet at the hotel so I went back to my room, ordered room service and got the meal in 30 minutes and cheaper than had I paid for the buffet; used that 30 minutes to review notes and the map for the event; walked over to the meeting space a few blocks away- directly across from the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall; used storytelling to introduce myself as as storyteller (what we teach in the OISBC!); had many productive, networking conversations within a roomful of motivated, productive, energized people (because of the technique mentioned in the previous line); noted that the main speaker understands how to use storytelling but needs work on technique- at least he is consistently using storytelling to cement in his points; dinner in the hotel (great hotel- not enough meal service space or staff); caught up on email; deleted website spam; talked to my wife on the phone; reviewed notes from the day; heat wave in Philly today. In Arizona, we call this weather "July." And, no, it's not a dry heat; wishing I could sit down with every storyteller I have contact with and personally tell you how much I want you at the next "Outside In Storytelling Marketing Boot Camp" and just how powerful an experience it would be for you. Truly. Honestly. With Great Passion.; goodnight.

04.25.2008 Friday: Hot Dog

Picture of: the "world's most wanted wiener" cup.

Today I: picked up a rental car for a few projects; had an early lunch with daughters #3 and #4- daughter #4, who we have nicknamed Miss Adventure, was fascinated to find out there were fast-food places that specialized in just hot dogs-hilarity ensued; had a coaching session with a corporate storytelling client helping him to fine-tune his story of his business success so far followed by lunch with same client. Great session with a client who really understands how corporate storytelling works. Coaching people is both "drawing out" and "adding in" if the two are that different; waded through Emails; worked on itinerary changes for next week's trip; listened to some of the huge stack of CD's I need to go through; late dinner with family.

04.11.2008 Friday: In. Voice.

Picture of: some returned mail, with those nifty yellow address updates that the post office provides.

Today I: spoke with clients on the phone; arranged billing for a client; sent purge letters to storyteller.net basic page members; post office run; updated my mailing list- do you know the three major divisions you need in your mailing lists? I do.; talked Robert Frost with another student in my degree program; packed up some storytellingproducts.com orders; booked a rental car; transported kids around; chased a "scary" bug out of daughter #3's room; sent a contract to a client; answered a lot of email; watched BSG.

03.13.08: Thursday: My Nu Sha

Picture of: the soda fountain at my local convenience/gasoline/hotdogs place. Between needing soda/gas/hotdogs, I am in one of these places almost everyday for one of those three. Lately, mostly gas.

Today I: finished up lots of loose ends in the Storytellingproducts.com online store- still some things to do; "got things done'; sent tons of Email; finished more things for school; did the initial edits for some sound files from Tim Ereneta's appearance at our festival back in January; finally got the caterer menu for our next live events- these events are not cheap to produce; mailed thank you notes to sponsors; watched my daughter #1 buy herself her 18th bday present- picture tomorrow if the alpha dogs don't eat it first; Twittered; thought long and hard that "power is taken not given."

02.13.2008 Wednesday: Phineas Eats Grammy

Picture of : Phineas Phig the Guinea Pig. Please note that he is playing on the table underneath my invitation to the "50th Anniversary Edition of the Grammy Awards" held last week. I didn't go, I didn't have the right clothes. LOL. Mad props to the Recording Academy folks for nominating real storytellers in the last few years.

Today I: was locked in my office doing storyteller paperwork, spending too much time answering Emails that won't move things forward; stood in line at the post office which I never do any more and talked about the "Storyteller.net at Borders" event with the guy who handles my POBOX mail; didn't have a school gig today as they are all doing conferences; finally escaped last night with my wife to go eat a salad before I lost my marbles sitting in front of this darn computer; came home to find Phineas wandering about the table with my Grammy invites. He said they were delicious.
