05.22.2008 Thursday: Catching Up

Picture of: front of thank you card my eldest daughter got from the owner when said daughter found wallet in parking lot at work and turned it in. Owner was, apparently, profoundly happy to have her wallet back.

Today I:In the last few days I: have missed updating you; had a bad FMS day and fell behind a bit; Twittered; wrote blog posts; bought airlines tickets to multiple destinations; talked with sponsors on the phone; booked school shows; didn't book other shows; started an outline for the next book; had lunch with a person who might be able to do a cool workshop with me; had a huge, historic-type storm in AZ today; booked hotel reservations; booked rental car reservations; talked at length with other national storytellers; called the A/C guy to come fix my air conditioner; chased my kid's rats out of my office (you didn't expect that one); drove around parking lots with learning-to-drive learner's permitted child; ordered pizza; re-evaluated and made some tough decisions and started to move forward; thanks for being with me on this blog-more to come; happy birthday to my brother Mike.

04.27.2008 Sunday: Packing It In

Picture of: my suitcase staging area, clothes and Kinko's box.

Today I: put the finishing touches on the handouts for my corporate storytelling event next week in Miami; ran to Kinko's to copy said paperwork; went to Walmart (on a weekend-ugg) to pick up a few things for the trip; sent invoice to storytelling sponsor; sent letter of agreement to another sponsor; verified flight schedules; answered the emails of those who seek my time; put up a new blogpost at seanblogs.com; ran to another store to replace dead batteries- seven hours on planes with no Ipod makes me very crabby; ate dinner out with my wife- a little coffee house break; washed a lot of clothes; packed the suitcase and bags; lost and found two really important pieces of travel equipment; updated Ipod with all the podcasts I want to catch up on while trapped on tube speeding through the air; spent time on the phone late night with another professional storyteller who was also packing and prepping for her travel week; am wrestling with CEO decisions in a world full of owners; calling it a night so I can soon call it a morning

04.15.2008 Tuesday: Earn. Tax. Spend

Picture of: the school sign outside the school where I am working a few days over the next week.

Today: got up to engage in what some people call "roush our" to drive to the above mentioned school along with more cars than I usually see; misjudged my time to leave and ended up really really early to the school; went to Star$s for coffee and making lists; went to the school and was the guest storyteller, worked with 8th grade boys (13-14 years) and then with mixed group of 6th graders (11-12 years)- will rinse and repeat several times on Thursday and next Monday; had lunch with teacher who booked me; came home and sent note to my Uncle Samuel to send me some of my money back; researched stories for upcoming shows; prepared contract for another sponsor; took cold medicine to burn away this cold that's coming; am planning on sleeping through the rest of this evening

04.07.2008 Monday: Book It

Picture of: one of the itineraries I booked today.

Today I: had a staff meeting; took packages to the post office; talked on the phone with one of my summer storytelling sponsors; faxed back contracts; did banking; booked multiple flights for future events; worked on another mailing; updated my mailing list; contacted one of my booking-agent people; sorted through a pile of things that needed to be GTD'd; took storytellingproducts.com orders; helped some people with their storyteller.net pages; read some interesting postings that convince me even more that Storytelling is going into the direction of voiceover with the foundational struggle and problems that industry is having; became more convinced than ever that the Outside In Model is very true.

02.23.2008 Storytelling for (a couple of) Children

Picture of: me storytelling at a local "non corporate" bookstore in the children's section.

Today I: told stories to children at this local bookstore for their "Love of Reading" week. Truly one of the most bizarre storytelling events I have done. The store apparently did not get any advertising out for the event (personnel change) so no patrons knew I was going to be there. There were NO children there when I began with the exception of my two who dutifully sat in the chairs (thank you, precious ones) hoping others would come. They did. They came. They stayed, they moved on. Others came. Some participated in the longest, funniest, audience-wrapping version of the Lion and the Mouse I have ever done. Really, it was me the giant, loud storyteller just telling into the air at some points. Totally surreal experience. So grateful to sponsors and the good staff there, but oh, this was odd. Side note: one guy started to do a mime act right next to me at one point. So good to know he majored in recreational drugs and theater in high school. This was kind of like a Fringe for the kindergarten set. LOL.

01.10.08 Thursday: I Get Walked On

Picture of: the pavement at the office supply store, I have to go there often although I do get more and more of my things from ordering online

Today I: moved around some Arizona Storytelling Guild pieces; booked a storytelling gig with local bookstore; finalized my Baltimore hotel stay for February; was reminded that people will walk on you if you let them. Or, better put, people treat you exactly like you have trained them to treat you- pavement (there it is) is meant to be walked on. I am sure tommorrow's picture will include some comment on this; realized I don't sleep enough.
